✅ JLPT N5 – Basic Beginner Level
Kanji (漢字) are logographic characters originally derived from Chinese. They are an essential part of written Japanese and are read using two types of readings: On’yomi (音読み), the Sino-Japanese reading, and Kun’yomi (訓読み), the native Japanese reading.
✅ JLPT N4 – Upper Beginner Level
The JLPT N4 (Japanese Language Proficiency Test N4) is the second-easiest level of the JLPT and is designed to assess your ability to understand basic Japanese at an upper-beginner level. It builds upon the knowledge gained at the N5 level and prepares learners for more practical use of the language in everyday situations such as shopping, traveling, dining, and casual social interactions. The (語彙)GOI Vocabulary covered at this level includes commonly used nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and essential expressions. You are also expected to recognize and understand frequently used (漢字)KANJI characters that appear in daily life such as those found on signs, menus, instructions, and public notices. In terms of (文法)BUNPOU Grammar, N4 introduces more complex sentence patterns including direct and indirect speech, giving and receiving verbs, as well as basic forms of honorific and humble expressions (keigo). The reading section (読解 DOKKAI) focuses on your ability to comprehend short essays, messages, instructions, letters, articles, and dialogues related to everyday life. (聴解)CHOUKAI listening comprehension section tests your ability to understand spoken Japanese in common daily scenarios, provided the speech is delivered at a slow to moderate pace.
✅ JLPT N3 – Intermediate Level
The JLPT N3 is an intermediate-level Japanese Language Proficiency Test. It acts as a bridge between the beginner levels (N5/N4) and the more advanced levels (N2/N1). (漢字)KANJI This includes kanji used in daily life, news, public information, etc. You’ll be tested on their readings (both on’yomi and kun’yomi) and usage in compounds.(語彙)GOI Vocabulary: This covers daily-use nouns, verbs, and adjectives, as well as idiomatic and contextual expressions, and formal/informal terms for various settings (work, travel, social). You’ll be tested on orthography, contextual usage, and expressions with similar meanings.(文法)BUNPOU Grammar This section tests your understanding of intermediate grammatical structures and sentence constructions. Key grammar points include:
Conditional forms (~たら, ~ば, ~なら)
Passive and causative verbs (~れる/られる, ~せる/させる)
Comparative structures
Nominalization (~こと, ~の)
Expressions of expectation or assumption (~はず, ~だろう)
Contrastive forms (~が, ~けど, ~のに)
(読解 DOKKAI) Reading: You’ll be tested on your ability to read and understand written materials with specific contents concerning everyday topics. Short and mid-length passages (e.g., articles about cultural events, summaries of stories).
(聴解)CHOUKAI Listening
This section assesses your ability to comprehend spoken Japanese in various everyday situations. Real-life conversations (between friends, colleagues, family).Announcements (at train stations, events, workplaces).Interviews or monologues.

It depends on the level you want to achieve. Generally:
JLPT N1: 12 months
JLPT N5 (Beginner): 3,6,8,12 months
JLPT N4: 6 months
JLPT N3: 6 months
JLPT N2: 8 months
No prior knowledge is required. Beginners start with Hiragana and Katakana, basic vocabulary, and simple sentence structures.
Japanese may seem difficult at first because of three writing systems (Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji), but with proper teaching methods and regular practice, it becomes manageable and enjoyable to learn.
Japanese proficiency is commonly measured by the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) with five levels:
